The Marion County Health Department is reporting no new deaths and 84 new cases of COVID-19 during the week ending on Friday.
There are now 211 active cases in isolation in Marion County, including 15 who are in the hospital. Of those hospitalized, one is on a ventilator. One of those hospitalized is under six months. One is under 13. There are two in their 40s, three in their 50s, five in their 60s, two in their 70s, and one in their 80s.
Of the 84 new cases, nine were fully vaccinated. Six were long-term care residents, including two who were fully vaccinated. The health department reports 22 are school age, and four are four years old and younger. The health department is considering 65 of the cases as community spread and 19 who are household or close contacts. There were 47 released from isolation over the past week.
Jefferson County has reported 114 new cases and no deaths since last Friday. There are currently 118 in isolation.
The Washington County Health Department did not report any new numbers on Friday but indicated COVID and influenza cases were both on the rise.
State Public Health Officials are reporting another significant rise in new cases during the past week, with 59,312 being reported for the week ending Friday. There were 316 deaths statewide over the past week.
State Health officials are reminding residents the Centers for Disease Control has endorsed its Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendations for individuals to receive the Moderna or Pfizer-BioN Tech vaccine over the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. The Advisory Committee’s unanimous recommendation followed a discussion of the latest evidence on vaccine effectiveness, vaccine safety, and rare adverse events, and the abundant US vaccine supply. However, the committee reaffirmed that receiving any vaccine is better than being unvaccinated.
