Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson says he became involved in a high-speed chase with a man who nearly crashed into his car and later forced him into a ditch last Wednesday afternoon.
The driver identified as 24-year-old Taylor Moore of Norton Road in rural Odin was arrested for felony aggravated and eluding police following a high-speed chase. He was formally charged with the offense in Marion County Court over the weekend and has been released on $1,000 cash bond.
The situation unfolded while Dodson was providing extra patrol while off duty in an area of Foundation Park. A vehicle driven by Moore allegedly approached him on Gragg Street Road at a high rate of speed from the rear. Dodson activated his lights but Moore still passed him forcing him into the ditch to avoid a collision.
In the chase that followed, speeds reached over 100 miles per hour on Green Street Road near Dogwood before Moore turned into the driveway of a home where a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy was parked handling a disturbance call. The two took Moore into custody without further incident.
Dodson says Moore apparently was trying to get to the home in a hurry to become involved in a fight with his brother.
The charge claims Moore exceeded the speed limit by more than 21 miles per hour.
Moore is scheduled for a first appearance in court on January 10th.
