Salem Mayor Nic Farley and Centralia Mayor Bryan Kuder are back at it for another year as they participate in the fund raising effort for the Raccoon Grade School District’s Penny Wars.

The mayor who raises the most money gets to put a pie in the losing mayor’s face.  It’s part of a fundraising effort for the Shriners and concludes on the afternoon of the season-opening Salem-Centralia Shrine Football Game.

So far, Kuder has won every year, and Farley admits he has a big lead this year, but he’s hoping money raised in a Salem Elk’s Chicken Dinner from 11 to one this Sunday will put him back in the competition.

Farley is encouraging everyone to come out to Sunday’s dinner at the Elks.

“This is a great fundraiser in cooperation with Raccoon School and the local Shriners group.  The Mayor of Centralia and I have challenged each other to help raise money for the Shriners and their van fund this year. All the money goes to the Shriners Children’s Hospital and their van fund to ensure kids in need have a way to get to the hospital to get the care they need.”

Those who want to make donations to either mayor can drop them off at Salem or Centralia City Hall.

Kuder has already held a golf tournament that reportedly has raised around $25,000.
