The Marion County Board has agreed to purchase a new server for county government. The board was told the current server doesn’t have much life left and only 70 gigs of storage room remaining.
The new server will cost $143,539 and will be paid off at $5,860 a month for 36 months. The county’s current technology support contract will cover installation costs.
The board was told if they waited until next year to make the purchase, costs are expected to rise 30 to 40 percent.

In other action, the board approved the purchase of a two ton asphalt hot box at a cost of $37,413. Highway Engineer Alex Kreke says the machine will more efficiently fill potholes in winter months.
The board also approved the purchase of a new $37,413 four by four pickup truck for the highway department.
Kreke says money from the sale of old no longer needed equipment help fund the purchases.
He also reported oil and chipping work had been completed for the year, with 34 miles of county roads improved.
