One person was stabbed, and a second is in custody following a Wednesday morning incident at a home in the 10-thousand block of East Bakerville Road in rural Mt. Vernon.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department reports that, on arrival, they located 37-year-old Christopher Hardig of Mt. Vernon with a stab wound to the neck. He was transported by Litton’s Ambulance Service to Crossroads Hospital for treatment of his injuries, which are considered non-life-threatening.
43-year-old resident April L. Penrod was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Jefferson County Justice Center.
Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services responded to the residence to process the crime scene and collect evidence.
Criminal charges are pending.
