Ameren Illinois has taken another step forward in modernizing the electric grid in Salem by installing and activating smart switches designed to enhance service reliability for customers.
The devices are called IntelliRupters. They work in tandem with automated outage detection technologies to quickly identify faults in the electricity flow, reroute power from other circuits, and reduce both the duration of an outage and the number of customers affected.
Director of Electric Operations for Ameren Illinois, serving Marion County, Ty Lindhorst, says that with the increase in electricity demand in their territory, it is more important than ever to deploy the latest technology to prevent service disruptions. He says the upgrades are a continuation of their plan to build a more flexible, reliable, and resilient electric grid.
In the last 10 years, Ameren Illinois has implemented several system reliability projects by adding new technology and fortifying the electric grid in Salem.
