The City of Salem is close to naming a new city manager and police chief.
Mayor Nic Farley says the Salem City Council could consider a contract with a new city manager at the March 17th meeting. The council interviewed three candidates on Thursday while other department heads showed them around the community and talked to them as well. Farley says the council was able to agree on their top choice and contract negotiations are now underway. The council selected their three finalists from 18 earlier interviewed by the city’s consultant. He says they all have different backgrounds and with different types of success. Farley say they were very pleased with the pool and are concentrating on making the right fit. A total of 52 submitted applications. The new City Manager will take office at the end of June when current City Manager Annette Sola retires.
Meanwhile, current City Manager Sola says she and Deputy Police Chief Tyler Rose will interview the three top finalists for Police Chief next week. She says the top choice will then have to go through various background checks before a formal job offer can be made. Sola hopes to name the new chief in early April. A total of 48 applied for that position. Rose has been serving as active chief since the resignation of Susan Miller at the beginning of the year.
