Marion County Health Department reports another COVID-related death; county at medium community level

The Marion County Health Department is reporting a COVID-related death in their weekly report on the disease.  The death was a female in her 60s who was a long-term care resident who was not vaccinated.  There have now been 216 COVID-19-related deaths in Marion County since the beginning of the pandemic.

There are currently seven Marion County congregate care facilities in outbreak status.  One facility has 33 positives, another 22, and a third 19.  The others have two, five, six, and seven positive cases.

The CDC weekly tracker reports Marion County is at the medium community level with 60 new cases and five new hospitalizations in the week ending Thursday.  The number of cases is down 38 percent from last week.

Both Jefferson and Clinton County have dropped to the low community level.   Jefferson County had 72 new cases, a four percent drop, and three new hospitalizations.    Clinton County has 59 new cases, a 16-percent decline, and two new hospitalizations.

Two counties are at the high level.  Fayette County reported 35 new cases and three new hospitalizations.   The number of new cases declined 46 percent.  There were three new hospitalizations. Clay County had 31 new cases, a drop of 38 percent.  There was one new hospitalization.

Washington County is at the medium level with 12 new cases and two new hospitalizations.   The number of cases fell 29 percent.   Wayne County is also at the medium level with 27 new cases and two new hospitalizations.   The number of cases fell by 61 percent.

Statewide there were 17,584 new cases and 74 additional deaths.  As of Thursday night, 1,153 were hospitalized in Illinois with COVID-19.  Of those 145 were in ICU and 49 were on ventilators.
