The Kentucky Fried Chicken in Salem has closed permanently.
Employees say corporate management entered the restaurant without notice at seven on Friday night and shut it down, effective immediately.
Some employees were cleaning out the restaurant Saturday, filling two large dumpsters brought in for that purpose. One employee indicated that all 20 estimated employees were receiving severance pay.
The restaurant franchisee has provided no information on the reason for the closing.
Kentucky Fried Chicken, like many other fast food restaurant chains, has been closing underperforming restaurants.
