Despite a number of contested primary races, Marion County Clerk Steve Fox is not anticipating a large voter turnout in today’s Primary Election. A check Monday morning of some of the polling places bears out a low turnout so far.
“The turnout is going to be a little less than the 2020 general primary and probably much less than the 2022 general primary. So right now we are about 600 and some early voters and right around 300 vote by mail voters. I would say election day turnout will be around 25% including both parties, democrat and republican.”
Polls are open until seven tonight with election coverage on WJBD-FM beginning around eight.
There are contested races on both tickets for President and Congressman. The Republican race between incumbent Mike Bost and challenger Darren Bailey of Xenia is expected to be tight.
There is also a race for State Representative between incumbent Republican Blaine Wilhour and challenger Matt Wells.
In the nine county race for Circuit Judge, Douglas Gruenke and Dennis Atteberry are facing off.
In the Marion County Coroner’s race, Republican incumbent Troy Canon is being challenged by Claude Howell.
There are several contested Marion County Board races. In District One, incumbents Brock Waggoner and Tracy Murray are being challenged by Chuck Rose. In District Four, Cody Rose and David Jourdan are seeking the one open seat.
There is also a contested race for Precinct Committeeperson in Salem Six. Brock Waggoner and Sharon Woodward are both seeking the position.
