The owner of the Moran-Queen-Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia has entered into a consent order to permanently revoke his Illinois funeral director and embalmer license.
The order revoking the license of Hugh Moran was signed by Acting Division of Professional Regulation Director Camile Lindsay on March 2nd and is now in effect.
The revocation follows a complaint about the preparation room of the funeral establishment being in an extremely unsanitary condition. The stipulated order indicates the department’s inspection conducted on February 26th confirmed the allegations.
As part of the consent, the order says Moran has agreed to never file a petition for restoration of his Illinois funeral director and embalmer license. He is also barred from working in the death care services industry, including employment at or operation of any funeral home, cemetery, or crematorium in the state. Moran has also been ordered to not seek or obtain a license to sell preneed funeral and burial insurance in the State of Illinois. He has 30 days from the effective date to remove any references depicting funeral home and embalmer licensure from his business website.
The order also states that Moran has waived his rights to a hearing where the department bears the burden to prove its allegations with clear and convincing evidence. He also waived the right of administrative review and the right to legal counsel.
The complaint and video of the unsanitary conditions were provided to Capitol News Illinois after no follow-up was made in the ten weeks after it was filed. After the news media inquiry, the February inspection was made.
In a brief phone call Monday morning, Moran told WJBD-WSIQ news he was still considering his options and may make a statement later.
