Area Republican legislators not happy with Governor’s proposed budget

State Senator Jason Plummer joined other area Republicans in opposing the Governor’s proposed spending plan presented to the State Legislature last week.

Plummer notes while Illinois families try to act responsibly with their finances, Governor Pritzker has set another record in state spending in his most recent irresponsible and unbalanced budget.

Plummer says, “It’s disgusting to see programs very important to the developmentally disabled and to children, some of the most vulnerable children, be underfunded while he spends well over a billion, possibly over two billion dollars on the illegal immigrants that he has invited to Illinois. Governor Pritzker gives illegal immigrants one or two billion dollars and his way to plug the gap is to raise taxes on Illinois families by over a billion dollars. This guy can’t stop spending.”

Plummer says under Pritzker’s budget families will be making less, paying more, or both, because of Pritzker’s failed policies and irresponsible budget.

State Senator Terri Bryant also issued a statement that once again, the Governor has shown that he will continue to prioritize his radical noncitizen welfare agenda over the needs of Illinois families.  She notes the Governor has spent two billion dollars of taxpayer money on programs for noncitizens over the last two years, money that should have been spent on lowering costs for Illinoisans and aiding the state’s most vulnerable citizens.

State Representative Charlie Meier warns with no more bailouts from the federal government, Illinois’ budget is faced with a $775 million deficit.

Meier says, “I don’t like that we’re going to increase the budget by 4.5% and have a projected deficit. The money they continued to spend into new programs over the last several years, which we told them we would not be able to maintain, are now biting us in the butt. He was very happy to say he was going to take away the 1% grocery tax, but if you look at House Bill 1634, which they are trying to push through, the transportation bill, the movement in California, that will probably add 20 to 30% on our grocery cost for transportation.”

Meier wants to stop providing Cadillac health care benefits for non-citizens as it’s costing us $2.8-billion.  He says the state needs a budget that is balanced with a plan to grow our economy, not shrink it.
