A 71-year-old Nashville man has died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash in Washington County.

George Davis was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Illinois Route 15 near County Highway 11 at 5:04 Monday afternoon by Washington County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Fletcher.

The coroner’s office reports Davis was the unrestrained driver of a westbound SUV on Route 15 which reportedly ran off the north side of the road, over compensated, and ran off the south side of the road which caused the vehicle to flip. Davis was ejected from the vehicle which came to rest on top of him.

The cause of death appears to be massive head and chest trauma and the manner of death is accidental. The crash continues to be investigated by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.

It is believed that Davis suffered a medical condition which led to the accident. Toxicology samples were obtained by Deputy Coroner Fletcher for routine testing.

Agencies at the scene were the Washington County Ambulance Service, Nashville Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Nashville Fire Department, Washington County EMA, and the Washington County Coroner’s Office.
