The Illinois Manufacturing Association is unveiling the winner of the “Coolest Thing Made in Illinois” Contest.
Voters whittled down nearly 250 entries to come up with the winner: The Rosenberg Moon Habitat, designed by students and space architects in Switzerland and Denmark and printed by Ingersoll Machine Tools in Rockford. The three story habitat designed to house two people on the moon is the tallest single piece 3-D printed polymer structure in the world. Governor JB Pritzker attended the event and applauds the industry.
“Our great state has always been a land of innovation. And today because of you Illinois is home to over 18,000 manufactures that employ over 600,000 residents up and down the state. From the tech that keeps us connected to the snacks and treats that are my favorite.”
Other finalists include a driver’s assistance sensor made by Hella Electronics in Flora, the Drug Terminator manufactured by Elastec in Carmi, and 17th Street Barbecue Sauces in Murphysboro.
