Salem High School Superintendent Dr. Brad Detering told the school board Monday night temporary repairs have been made to the floor at BE Gum gymnasium after a new basketball goal being put into place fell and went through a small area of the floor.
Detering says the company putting up the basketball goals paid for the repairs.
“Not quite exactly what we’d like for it to be, but it will have to do for the school year,” Detering said. “Next summer, we’re planning to go ahead and sand and repaint. That project was on our list. I’m not sure if it was going to be on the summer 2027 list, but it got fast forwarded.”
Detering will also be working with the company to pay for some of the re-sanding of the court next summer.
Of the other summer improvements, new lower bleachers are in, and video scoreboards are scheduled to be installed beginning on Friday. Roof resurfacing on part of the building and hardware replacement to cafeteria doors are complete along with a resurfacing of some of the rear parking lots.
