The Salem City Council has approved a service agreement with Foresight for continued repairs to the exterior of City Hall. The project will include removing existing coating from the south and west walls above the lower roof of City Hall, tuck pointing the masonry, blocking in existing windows, and cleaning and sealing the masonry.
The council approved a special use permit to allow for two residential units above the first story of a downtown building currently underway at 123 West Main Street. There will be an inspection of the housing units before occupancy can take place.
An ordinance amendment will be presented to reduce the number of liquor licenses because licenses have been turned in. El Patron Mexican Restaurant has voluntarily surrendered one of its two Class B Liquor Licenses, and Lucy’s Place turned in its Class E license for a video gaming facility due to the business closing.
The council approved a new agreement with UMG for management of its natural gas system. The fee will increase each of the next two years after no increase for 11 years. The city will pay an average of $50 per month more for management of the Citation Oil gas program and $327 for managing the pipeline purchase of gas.
After considerable discussion, the council agreed to stick with the lowest bid for purchase of a new mower from Ace Auto Sales for $11,840. That was under the $15,000 estimate.
The council congratulated Dustin Lightfoot on being a public works employee for 10 years.
