The Marion County Board continues to move forward with building improvements.

Among the projects moving forward Tuesday night was the repair and painting of the courthouse Rotunda, ceiling walls, and stairwell.  Henson Painting has been awarded a $22,947 bid to complete the work.   Sheriff Kevin Cripps, who oversees the courthouse grounds, says this will be a complex project.

“The rotunda area part of the ceiling is starting to flake and that’s going to be quite a project to do because we are going to have to scaffold from the first floor all the way through the courthouse to get to that area up there.  That is where a large chunk of the expense is going to go.  Also the ceiling going down the first flight of stairs to the first landing where the large glass is in the front of the courthouse, it’s starting to peel and plaster is coming a part.  And the back wall to the law library is also deteriorating.”

Cripps says the work will include shoring up that wall.   He doesn’t anticipate the project being undertaken until later in the year.   Meanwhile, Henson Painting has completed another painting project in the Judge’s chambers at a cost of $1,696.

Building Committee Chair Dr. Creighton Engel announced a dumpster will arrive at the Moose Storage Building on April 3rd to try and get that building in better shape.

“I think officials have things stored there and are going to get rid of and going to get to the front section of the Moose so we can do a few things in there like cleanup and other things like that.”

Engel says the elected officials priority list of other items that need to be repaired or remodeled will be addressed in the next building committee meeting.

The board approved a request from the sheriff to change the courthouse and Moose Building security cameras to the Security Automation Systems so they can be monitored on the same screen as the cameras at the law enforcement center.  The cost will be $2,800 unless the company has to send someone to assist in the changeover.

The board approved the reappointment of Richard Day as a Kinmundy-Alma Fire Trustee.
