Centralia Police say a second suspect wanted in connection with a Sunday afternoon shooting at Rhodes and McKee has turned themselves in.

A third male juvenile who was shot in the leg was initially taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital before being transported to a St. Louis area hospital where he is in stable condition.

Both those arrested have been detained at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center.   They have been charged in Marion County Juvenile Court with mob action, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery/use of a firearm, and reckless conduct.  No additional subjects are being sought.

Centralia Police Chief Christopher Locke says the department wants to thank the area departments who assisted, State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth, as well as their officers involved in the case who all worked diligently to bring about a timely and peaceful resolution to the incident.  He says this level of cooperation is indicative of their pledge to work together to ensure the safety of residents throughout the city and county.

In addition, Locke wants to thank the schools that worked in concert with the Centralia Police Department to ensure the safety of students and staff.  Additional officers were at Centralia High School and Junior High on Monday following the Sunday shooting.  Police say there were no issues.    Locke says this community-based, all-in, approach is what they should all strive for.  ‘Job well done across the board.’

Centralia Police have not addressed a motive but say the suspects and victim knew each other and it’s believed this is an ongoing issue between them.
