A large 90 by 27-foot storage building was damaged by fire Thursday afternoon.
Iuka Fire Chief Kenny Eagan says the building on the Delbert Greenwood property on US 50 west of Iuka was formerly a hog house. About the first 30 feet of the building and the furniture and other contents were destroyed. The rest of the building and stored items were saved.
Eagan says it appears Greenwood was burning a brush pile when it spread to firewood stored outside the building and then moved inside. A passerby noticed the smoke. There was fire coming out the door once it was opened.
Eagan says between water brought to the scene by Iuka and Salem they had a good water supply to put out the fire. Salem had been called for mutual aid.
The fire call came in at 4:03 Thursday afternoon. Firemen remained on the scene for about an hour and a half.
