The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for South Central Illinois as well as a large area of Southern Illinois and Missouri from Thursday evening through Friday night.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded.
Heavy rain is likely Thursday and Friday, with the heaviest rain expected to fall between Thursday evening and Friday evening. Widespread totals of at least 1 inch are expected, with amounts of between 3 and 5 inches also likely but across more limited areas.
While the highest chance of heavy rain exists in southeast Missouri and southwest Illinois, the location of heaviest rain remains uncertain, and it remains possible that areas farther north like the St. Louis metro area could see heavy rain as well. At least minor flooding impacts are likely where the heaviest rain falls, including rivers, streams, and creeks, and isolated flash flooding cannot be ruled out as well.
