A 60-year-old Salem man has pleaded guilty to an aggravated domestic battery charge in exchange for home invasion and aggravated criminal sexual abuse charges being dropped.

Jeffrey Tate of West Warmoth in Salem was sentenced in Marion County Court on Tuesday to four years probation, drug, alcohol and mental health counseling along with anger management treatment.   The domestic battery charge claims Tate made physical contact of an insulting or provocative nature and strangled the victim by pushing his forearm against her neck impeding her breathing.

The aggravated criminal sexual abuse charge that was dropped further claimed that Tate pushed her to the ground and grabbed her breast with his hand for the purpose of sexual gratification.

Salem Police say Tate entered a home he now lists as his address through a window in November of last year where the victim of an earlier domestic battery resided who he was ordered to have no contact as part of the sentence.

Salem Police say when they arrived receiving an open line 911 call, they heard a female screaming for help.  After finding all doors locked, officers forced entry and found the female on the main floor.   Police say Tate was found upstairs and was taken into custody without incident.
