The Centralia City Council Monday night agreed to have a professional study done on the need, potential user base, and amenities that should be included if the city decides to construct a new pool in Fairview Park.
Councilman Robert ‘Spanky’ Smith is the chair of the pool committee that recommended the $2,850 study by Burbach Aquatics.
“I like going all-inclusive with a group like this and they pretty much handle everything from A to Z. Some of the things we talked about doing as a committee we just felt it was in our best interest to let Burbach take the ball and run with it because this is what they do.”
Mayor Bryan Kuder agreed the study can give the city much-needed answers.
“Let’s say the five of us up here want to build a big grandeur of a swimming pool, they are going to come in and say the city can’t support that large of a swimming pool. For the best bang for your buck, you need to have it a certain size because you have so many pools certain distances away. This is what they have, and this is what you can do on your size level to be different from them and draw a crowd.”
Kuder says Burbach also has an extremely good reputation for working with cities on pool projects.
The information from the study will go back to the pool committee for review and an eventual recommendation to the city council on how to proceed with the proposed project.
