A 36-year-old rural Kell man has been sentenced to a total of seven years in prison after pleading guilty in Marion County Court to residential burglary and burglary charges.

Beau Morton of Morton Road received a four-year sentence for a February 2019 residential burglary to a home on Bannister Road in rural Kell.  A companion charge of felony theft of collectible coins and money valued at $500 to $10,000 was dropped.

Morton received a three-year prison term for a burglary to the former Coach’s Corner Building on West Main Street in downtown Salem in July 2021.   He was accused of damaging a video gaming machine and a cash counter.  Morton reportedly left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Morton will have to serve the two sentences consecutively leading to a seven-year total prison term.

Criminal damage and unlawful possession of another person’s debit or credit card were dropped as part of the plea.
