The Salem City Council Monday night will consider changes to requirements to utilize upstairs floors of downtown commercial buildings for residential occupancy.
Mayor Nic Farley asked for the discussion after finding frustration among some of the building owners. Currently, city code requires that a special use permit be obtained that requires plans with an architect’s seal of approval.
The council is also being asked to approve authorization to move forward with July 4th and Bicentennial Celebration Plans. The council will also have to decide if the event should be held on the actual Tuesday holiday or move to Saturday, July 1st.
The public works department is asking to move forward with non-budgeted replacement of the roof at the bathroom facility in Bryan Memorial Park near the state. A $4,400 bid from McCoy Construction and Roofing is being proposed. The work is needed to avoid damage to the interior of the bathrooms.
The council meeting begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
