Centralia Police say a motion detector led to the discovery of a burglary in progress at a home in the 1000 block of South Maple Street early Wednesday morning.

43-year-old Scott Hamburg of Breese Street was taken into custody after he allegedly broke out a second window and ran from police about a block before being tazed.   He was arrested for burglary, criminal damage to property and resisting a peace officer.

Centralia Police Lieutenant Steve Whritenour says the homeowner notified police after the motion detector for her home notified her by phone.  After discovering the broken window, police received permission from the homeowner to enter the house.  Once inside, they heard the sound of breaking glass as Hamburg allegedly exited the home and tried to run from the scene.

Police later found a ladder propped up against the home and other items removed from inside.

During his first appearance in Marion County Court Thursday afternoon bond was set at $7,500.   Hamburg was ordered to have no contact with the residence on South Maple or its owner.   A public defender was appointed to represent him.  A preliminary hearing was set for November 1st.
