The third South Central Illinois Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held Saturday morning at Kaskaskia College.
Katie Hoffman who is coordinating the race for the Alzheimer’s Association is hoping for 80 participant. She reports registration and sign-up is from nine to ten when volunteers are also invited to walk through the displays at the Walk Village. The walk will follow the opening ceremony.
“10:00 we will start the flower ceremony where we will present out flowers. Each flower has a different color which represents someone either supporting, caring for or currently has Alzheimer’s or dementia. And then we have a flower to represent those who have lost someone. And our last flower is a very significant flower, that’s a white flower, and that represents the first survivor.”
Entering the walk event, the South Central Walk has raised $16,230 towards their $43,000 goal. Hoffman notes they have until the end of the year to reach the goal. Proceeds go to work towards a cure for Alzheimer’s and to assist those afflicted with the disease.
