A 46-year-old Alma man has been sentenced to nearly 16 years in federal prison on drug and weapons charges.
John Doyle of the 4500 block of Kinoka Road admitted to three counts of distribution of a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and being a felon in possession of a firearm in October of last year.
Judge Staci Yandle sentenced Doyle on Tuesday to 188 months on the four drug charges and 120 months for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentences will run concurrently. After getting out of prison, Doyle will have to complete three years of supervised relief.
Federal court records indicate Doyle knowingly and intentionally distributed a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine. He was also charged with possessing a Kimber Micro 9 firearm with an aftermarket trigger with a domestic battery conviction in Fayette County.
Doyle was arrested in October 2020 after the South Eastern Illinois Drug Task Force with help from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and the US Marshals Task Force executed a search warrant on his home. The gun, ammunition, and controlled substances were reportedly recovered.
