A freshman US Representative that currently represents most of South Central Illinois is still waiting to decide where to run for office.
Republican Mary Miller could run for reelection in either a newly drawn 15th District and challenge incumbent Republican Rodney Davis or she could run in the 12th where she would face off against another incumbent Republican Mike Bost. The 12th District now includes most of South Central Illinois.
Miller says wherever she’s running it will be as a choice to the voter over other Republicans.
“Well, they’re Republicans, but there is a difference. We can have Republicans from New York that are liberal because they represent that type of Republican. But in our district, our people are conservative Republicans. I’m a conservative Republican.”
Meanwhile, Congressman Rodney Davis is confirming he will not be running for Governor – instead, he will be up for re-election in the newly drawn 15th district. Davis says that his record stands on conservative values and as he works to meet new voters he will be ready to head back to Washington D.C. to work on behalf of the voters.
“There is one thing all of our constituents I think know about me and my newer constituents will know about me, I am a conservative that is never going to sacrifice our core values and principles. I’m also someone that is going to Washington and I’m going to get things done. You have to go there and you have to address the problems your constituents bring to you.”
Davis’ was drawn out of his old 13th district with the most recent legislative maps drawn by Illinois lawmakers.
US representatives do not have to live in the district they run to represent.
