Both the Marion and Clinton County Health Departments are reporting additional COVID-19 deaths. Marion County is also reporting 98 new cases in the past two days, including 29 involving those who are fully vaccinated.
The death in Marion County was a female in her 70s who was not vaccinated and had been hospitalized on a ventilator. She was not a long-term care resident. The death is the 161st since the pandemic began.
Clinton County’s death was a male in his 60s, who is the 106th death reported from COVID-19 related deaths since the pandemic began.
Of Marion County’s 98 new cases reported on Thursday and Friday, 18 are school age and two are four years old and younger. 90 of the cases are considered community spread and eight are the results of household or close contacts.
There are now 189 active cases, including 15 in the hospital. One of those is on a ventilator. They range in age from one under three months, two in their 40s, three in their 50s, five in their 60s, three in their 70s, and one in their 80s.
There were 57 released from isolation during the past two days. There have now been 7,577 positive cases of COVID-19 in Marion County since the pandemic began.
Clinton County’s weekly report shows 169 new positive cases and 308 currently in isolation. In addition to the one death, two new admissions have been made to the hospital. They are a male in his 70s and a female in her 50s.
Jefferson County is reporting 34 new cases on Thursday and Friday and 118 are currently in isolation due to positive cases.
Statewide, 49,668 new cases of COVID-19 were reported along with 266 new deaths in the week ending Friday. Just over a half million additional vaccines were administered in the past week. The state reports 62-percent of Illinois’ population is now vaccinated and 41-percent of eligible adults have received a booster dose of vaccine.
