Illinois House Republican lawmakers are proposing a relief package to help combat rising inflation.
The plan offers an up to $400 tax credit for those meeting certain income thresholds. State Representative Tom Demmer of Dixon says it would be applied when you file taxes in the spring.
“$400 won’t make all the problems go away, but it could have a positive impact. It could be a week or two of groceries, it could be an extra few utility bills, it could be the difference between buying new shoes or a winter coat for your kids.”
State Representative Blaine Wilhour. is among those supporting the proposal. He says this tax credit of a few hundred dollars could help put food on the table or gas in the vehicle to get to work. He notes It isn’t a fix-all for the bad policies and over spending by the Governor and the Democrats controlling the
legislature in Illinois, but it is a targeted relief effort for real families who are struggling.
The legislation being drafted could be heard as early as January 4 when the General Assembly is scheduled to convene again. The program to help families with a tax credit could be in place in time for when the tax filing process begins.
