A 42-year-old St. Clair, Missouri man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for firing at officers during a police chase that began in Centralia and continued to the Coulterville area.
Jared Queen had earlier been found guilty by a Washington County Court Jury in Nashville of aggravated discharge of a firearm at a peace officer, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and aggravated fleeing and eluding police.
Associate Judge Gene Gross sentenced Queen to 40 years for aggravated discharge of a firearm, 10 years for unlawful use of a weapon, and six years for the aggravated fleeing of police. All the time will be served consecutively. Queen will receive credit for 869 days already served in the Washington County Jail. He’ll have to complete three years of parole after getting out of prison.
Centralia Police say Queen fled an investigative traffic stop near Broadway and Hickory after police had received a report of a battery in a vehicle matching the description a few minutes earlier. As Centralia and Wamac Police continued the chase along Route 177 near Irvington, Queen alleged began firing at the officers from out the driver’s door.
Attempted murder, and multiple Class X charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm towards a police officer were dropped as part of the plea.
A second person in the vehicle, 42-year-old Maria Moore of Wright City, Missouri, still faces attempted murder and multiple felony weapons charges. A jury trial on the ten charges was set for January 18th in a status hearing in the case held on Wednesday.
