Members of the South Central FFA Chapter have completed two community service projects.
The FFA members started by picking up trash and other litter from along a two-mile stretch of Highway 37 from the Marion/Fayette County line, south to the Sullivan Road intersection. The South Central FFA has adopted this stretch of road and has the duty of keeping it clean of garbage. The members ended up picking up over 20 bags full of trash. This project helps members see the realness and impact of pollution, even in rural areas, and helps to discourage littering in the younger generation.
The next project included the planting of trees in Downtown Kinmundy, at the Kinmundy City Park, plus landscape clean-up in the downtown area, and at the Veterans Memorial, located in the City park. Seven trees were planted by FFA members along a stretch of Third Street in Downtown Kinmundy, along with one tree at the City Park. The trees included Serviceberries, Bald Cypress, Sweetbay Magnolias, and Southern Magnolias. The FFA members pulled weeds, sprayed weeds, and trimmed back plants along the street, downtown, and at the Veterans Memorial.
Advisor TJ Bolen says through these projects, FFA members were able to get involved and make a difference in their communities. Both of the projects also helped to increase the beauty of the community, along with helping to emphasize the importance of caring for our planet and the many benefits of planting trees.
