By News Mar 29, 2021 | 9:28 PM

The Marion County Health Department has announced that anyone 16 and older is now eligible to sign up to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

The Pfizer vaccine is authorized for those 16 years and older while the Moderna and Johnson and Johnson are authorized for 18 years or older.

Since the Marion County Health Department only has the Moderna vaccine, they are taking appointments only from Illinois residents 18 age and older, regardless of health condition or occupation.

Salem Township Hospital and SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital have also started taking appointments for COVID-19 vaccine.    SSM Health does have access to the Pfizer vaccine as well as the Moderna, so appointments can be made for Illinois residents 16 and older.

To make an appointment, you can contact the Marion County Health Department at 548-3878.    At Salem Township Hospital, you may call 548-3194 extension 8135.   At SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, you are asked to register online at https://webforms.ssmhealth.com/COVIDVaccine.

All three have indicated they have worked through their waiting lists and at the present time vaccines can be received with only a short wait.

The Governor authorized county’s that had adequate vaccine supply and had worked through the higher risks categories to begin the vaccinations for others earlier than the original date of April 12th.
