The Salem Wildcats nipped South Central 3-1 yesterday. Rhett Detering held the Cougars to just 1 hit, and he was erased trying to stretch a single to a double on a great throw by right fielder Keaton Gullion. Detering struck out 12 and walked 4 in 5.2 innings. Colten Shelton got the 1.1 inning save only allowing a walk. At the plate for Salem, Shelton and Ryan Detering drove in runs with singles from Gavin Zimmermann, Gullion and Aden Bass. SC’s lone hit came from Colton Smith. Coen West went 6 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs with 9 ks.
The Salem varsity will host Roxana today. If the Shells win, they would clinch a share of the Conference title depending on what Columbia does. The SC Cougars return to action at Newton.
The Salem JV fell at Marion 16-1 as Salem could only muster 3 singles by Keytin Grawe, Carter Lowe and Avery Gullion. Brody Collier drove in the only Salem run. Carter Lowe worked 1.2 innings allowing 12 runs, but only 6 earned. Hudson Gambill finished the final 1.2. The Salem JV is in action today on the road at Roxana.
The Christ Our Rock Stallions beat Zeigler Royalton on Wednesday scoring 5 times in the final 2 innings to erase a 6-4 deficit and pull off the victory. Jayden Bazile and Damari Dabney drove in 3 runs each, Hanke added 2 with Lendon Isaiah going 2-4 with an RBI. Bazile worked the first five innings allowing 10 hits and 6 runs, with Dabney coming in and getting the save in relief.
