Mark H. Johnson, 90, of Salem, Illinois passed away December 21, 2020, cared for in the home of his daughter. Following graduation, he attended and graduated from SIU-Carbondale and the University of Illinois. He taught and retired from Salem Community High School, teaching health, physiology, and coached football and basketball. He was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church, Salem Elks Club, and the Salem American Legion Post #128. He served in the U. S. Army (ROTC).
The family asks you to gather with them at East Lawn Cemetery, Saturday at 10:00 am for graveside services. Denise Burke will officiate. There will be no public visitation. It is imperative masks be worn, and those attending respect social distancing. Memorials may be made to the Salem Presbyterian Church or the SCHS Foundation and will be accepted by the Sutherland – Rankin Funeral Home, P.O. Surviving is his daughter, Janelle Edwards and husband Mike of Salem, and grandchildren Lauren (Taylor Welch) Edwards and Mark (Natalie) Edwards. Also a great-grandson, Griffin Edwards and one nephew, Marc Johnson.
Born June 30, 1930 in Salem, he was the son of Harry F. and Harriet (Brinkoetter) Johnson. He married Imogene Huffman, July 27, 1957, in Carbondale, IL and she preceded him in death. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Johnson and Robert Johnson.
