Centralia Varsity Orphans fell to Freeburg 6-4 on Saturday.

 

Freeburg opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Freeburg first got on the board when Breyman singled, scoring one run.

 

Centralia Varsity Orphans tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a fly out by Michael Organ, and a single by Archie Goewey.

 

 

A sacrifice fly by Rhett Lambert gave Centralia Varsity Orphans the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fourth.

 

Freeburg jumped back into the lead in the top of the fifth inning after Breyman singled to left field, and Miller doubled to right field, each scoring one run.

 

Preston Feig doubled to center field, which helped Centralia Varsity Orphans tie the game at four in the bottom of the fifth.

 

Freeburg took the lead in the top of the eighth inning after Miller singled to center field, and Garland singled to center field, each scoring one run.

 

Miller earned the win for Freeburg. The reliever allowed three hits and one run over four innings, striking out five and walking two. Organ took the loss for Centralia Varsity Orphans. The right-handed pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs on five hits, striking out two and walking none. Valon Williams began the game for Centralia Varsity Orphans. The starting pitcher surrendered eight hits and four runs over four and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one. Fritz opened the game for Freeburg. The hurler allowed four hits and three runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking three.

 

Feig, Will Stanton, and Goewey each collected two hits for Centralia Varsity Orphans. Feig, Lambert, and Goewey each drove in one run for Centralia Varsity Orphans. Centralia Varsity Orphans didn’t commit a single error in the field. Organ had the most chances in the field with five.

 

Freeburg amassed 13 hits in the game. Breyman drove the middle of the lineup, leading Freeburg with two runs batted in. The number three hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. Miller, Harms, and Merrill each collected multiple hits for Freeburg. Harms stole two bases.

 

Centralia Varsity Orphans welcome Collinsville on Monday for their next game.
