Heavy thunderstorms crossed South Central Illinois late Saturday afternoon, prompting tornado warnings for Marion, Clinton, Washington and Jefferson Counties as well as severe thunderstorm warnings for the entire region.

There was a barn destroyed by the storm near Laclede in southeastern Fayette County. Three trees uprooted in a yard on Edgebrook Drive in Centralia. The home was unoccupied. One tree fell on the corner of the house making a hole in the roof and damaging guttering.

Downed trees and large hail were the main problems according to weather information reported by WJBD Facebook fans. The heaviest tree damage was on the east side of Centralia. Woods Lane was closed for much of the night after power poles and lines came down due to fallen trees. A transformer caught fire near Odin and Community Beach Road. The Kinmundy Alma Fire Department was called to trees tangled in power lines in the 7900 block of State Route 37. Fortunately most of the electric outages that resulted impacted only a few homes.

Hail as large as golf balls was reported on the southwest side of Centralia and in an area between Dix and Mt. Vernon.

There were numerous reports of circulation in the clouds as it passed over the Marion-Clinton County area.
In Carlyle, the weight of water from the heavy thunderstorms was enough to bring down the canopy over the gas pumps at the Shell Service State on Route 127 in Carlyle.

The Salem Water Plant recorded .41 inches of rain from the storm and the Centralia Water Plant .85 inches. There were numerous rain readings of one and a half or more inches of rain from the Southside of Centralia, to the Selmaville area and south of Salem.
