Paul F. Hertel Jr., 84, of Salem, Illinois passed away December 20, 2020, at Salem Township Hospital. Following graduating high school, he attended the University of Illinois, and later graduated from SIU-Carbondale. He was Office manager for Marion County Home Bureau, retiring with 34 years of faithful service. He attended First Christian Church in Salem. He really enjoyed owning campers and camping. He also served in the U. S. Army.
Mr. Hertel choose cremation. A celebration of life service will be on Monday, December 28, at 11 am at the First Christian Church in Salem. There will be a time to visit with the family from 10 till the service hour. Memorial’s to honor the memory of Paul F. He married Sonia J. Cole, December 30, 1958, and she survives in Salem. Also, surviving are his children Jeff (Stacie) of Ballwin, MO, Greg (Kristy) of Salem, IL, Chris (Nicki) of Cincinnati, OH, and Lauri Hoffee of Salem, IL, along with 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Also his daughter-in-law, Alicia Hertel of Centralia, IL. Also left to mourn his passing are his siblings Bill (Donna) Hertel of Arlington, TX, Gary (Rosemary) of New Jersey, and Eileene (Les) Howerton of Staunton, IL.
Born November 18, 1936, in Edwardsville, IL, he was the son of Paul F. Hertel, Sr., and Miriam (Hotz) Hertel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Scott Hertel (2018), and sister Kathy Haring.
