David F. Thomas, 75, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:14 pm December 19, 2020, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.
He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon for over 70 years. David was also a member of the Jefferson County Masonic Lodge and the Elks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, the apple of his eye. David will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at 10:30 am at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Reverend Victor Long officiating. Private Inurnment will follow. Memorials may be made in David’s honor to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or Angels on Assignment. Please remember to observe social distancing at this time. We are limited to 10 people under the tent at a time. Following the CDC and NFDA regulations, we encourage everyone to wear a mask. They will be made available, upon request. He was born September 8, 1945, in Norman, Oklahoma to the late Noble Barton and Alelia V. (Butler) Thomas. David married Patty J. (Brieseacher) Thomas on December 7, 1963, in Mount Vernon. They just celebrated their 57th year of marriage. David is survived by his son, Jeffrey David Thomas of Mount Vernon; granddaughter, Megan Alelia Thomas of Mount Vernon; sister, Joyce Lynne Clark, and husband, Jack of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. David worked in education his entire career and later retired as a superintendent for the Sesser-Valier Schools.
