Two businesses in Salem and Centralia were among 22 in a seven-county area of Southern Illinois to allegedly sell alcoholic beverages to minors in June under a state Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement Surveillance program.
The two businesses in Salem that allegedly sold were DJ’s Party Supply at 1200 West Main in Salem and Salem 66 at 500 South Broadway in Salem. In Centralia, Huck’s Convenience Store at 315 East Calumet and Party Liquor at 812 North Elm allegedly sold to minors.
In Clinton County, Beckers Convenience Mart in Germantown and Boondocks Market in Bartelso allegedly sold to persons under 21.
In Fayette County, Fas Mart in St. Elmo, Mitchell’s Package in St. Elmo, and The Korner Store in Ramsey all allegedly sold to minors.
State Police says the ultimate goals are to enforce underage drinking laws and save lives by preventing impaired driving crashes and fatalities.
A total of 113 businesses were checked in the seven-county region that also included Effingham, Gallatin, Saline, and White Counties.
The program is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
