A fire believed to be electrical in nature heavily damaged a mobile home at 1406 South Maple Street in Centralia Sunday afternoon.

Centralia Fire officials say Kathleen Schroeder and her child were at home at the time watching TV when they lost power to part of the home.  She went to the electrical panel and saw smoke.   Schroeder was able to shut off the main breaker before safely leaving the home with her daughter.

By the time firemen arrived about three minutes later, flames were showing from part of the home as it spread rapidly.  While the outside of the mobile home remains intact, about 50-percent of the inside was gutted.

The fire is believed to have started in some failed wiring behind a bed in one of the bedrooms.

The home is owned by Schroeder’s mother, Monya Schroeder, who also resided at the home but was at work at the time.

All available Centralia City Firemen were called to the scene along with mutual aid from the Centralia Fire Protection District and Sandoval Firemen at the scene.   Odin stood by at the main Centralia Fire Station in the event of another fire.

The fire call came in at 3:32 Sunday afternoon.   Firemen returned to the station at 5:15 pm.
