Unemployment in Marion County jumped a tenth of a percent in June to 4.7 percent. However, the number of unemployed dropped 15 people from May to 718. The number of employed jumped 702 to 5,734. The unemployment rate is up three-tenths of a percent from a year ago.
Clinton County continues to have the lowest unemployment in the region at 3.2 percent, the same as in May. Washington County’s unemployment increased a tenth of a percent to 3.5 percent. Jefferson County’s rate is down one-tenth of a percent to 4.6 percent. Clay County’s rate fell a tenth of a percent to four percent. Fayette County’s rate up two-tenths of a percent to 4.7-percent.
In the Centralia-Mt. Vernon market area, there are 600 fewer jobs than a year ago. The biggest increases were in private education-health services up 525 jobs and government up 100 jobs. The biggest declines were in trade-transportation-utilities down 350 jobs, professional-business services down 250 jobs, leisure-hospitality down 150, financial activities and manufacturing down 125 jobs apiece and construction down 25 jobs.
