A 20-year-old Centralia man was arrested on multiple charges after Centralia Police initially stopped him to request he not walk down the middle of the road.
Ethan Saltsman of North Maple was eventually taken into custody for alleged aggravated battery to a police officer, possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest and obstructing identification.
Police say Saltsman initially became offensive when asked to move out of the road at Kerr and Poplar and refused to give his name. After attempting to arrest Saltsman he allegedly refused to put his hands behind his back and kicked at the officer before both ended up on the ground. Saltsman was tased by a second arriving officer and brought under control. At that point, a baggie of what field tested as methamphetamine was found in a pocket.
Police report Saltsman continued yelling and making threats when taken to the police station. After complaining of a knee injury, Saltsman was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia before being transported to the Marion County Jail to await a decision on formal charges and a first court appearance.
