After a tough stretch, Coach Ben Carril and the Salem Wildcats soccer team got exactly the kind of response they were looking for Tuesday.
Salem traveled to Altamont and came away with an impressive 2-0 shutout victory over an Altamont team that had entered the match with just two losses. The win also snapped a three-game losing streak and moved the Wildcats to 7-7 on the season.
Salem wasted little time establishing itself, getting on the scoreboard in the opening half when Isaiah Findley found the back of the net with a shot from the top of the box.
The Wildcats then turned to their defense to protect the lead before adding some insurance late in the match.
On a corner kick, Nate Lowry delivered a ball to the back post where Kam Rasul rose up and headed it home, giving Salem the 2-0 advantage.
From there, the Wildcats finished off the shutout and picked up a much-needed road victory.
Now, there’s little time to celebrate as Salem returns home today to host Olney at the Salem Soccer Complex. The match is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the Soccer Complex.
For Carril and the Wildcats, Tuesday’s victory provided a strong bounce-back performance — and now they’ll look to carry that momentum into another home match.
