Central City public works manager Shane Swartzlander reported that the projects being worked on in Lions Park are progressing on schedule. Most improvements are funded by an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant the village has received through the Illinois Department of Transportation. These include new sidewalk, plumbing, fencing, and power poles.
The village board approved a motion to submit another OSLAD grant application this year, and to once again look to evenly split the $2500 application fee with the Lioness Club. While there is not yet a comprehensive list of items to be sought with the next grant, possibilities mentioned during the meeting include a new parking lot or garden space, new swing set and playground equipment, new batting cage, and picnic tables. Mayor Neely Reed Is seeking input from board members and the public on what changes or improvements should be made to the park if another grant provides the opportunity.
In other business, the village will look to vacate the defunct alley between Patterson and Knight streets to property owners while reserving an easement to access utilities. An ordinance will be presented at the next village board meeting.
