Three people have been arrested by Salem Police in connection with the armed robbery of a man who had gone to meet them to sell an expensive pair of shoes. The sale had been set up after the shoes had been placed on sale on a social media marketplace.
Those arrested are identified as 18-year-old Michael Shanafelt of East Olive Street in Salem, a 16-year-old Salem juvenile boy, and a 14-year-old Sandoval juvenile boy. The two juveniles will be transferred to a detention facility to await further court action on Monday.
Salem Police say the man attempting to sell the shoes had agreed to meet on Schwartz Street near Glenwood Acres around 11 Saturday night. Instead of buying the shoes, the police reported that the three displayed a gun and stole the shoes before leaving the area.
The victim, who was not hurt, then drove to the Salem Police Department to report the armed robbery.
Police report they were then able to develop information on the location of the three and went to the residence where Shanafelt was staying on East Olive. The three were taken into custody without incident as the Salem Police canine waited outside in case any tried to flee.
The pair of shoes was recovered during the arrest process.
The police department, with use of the canine, was continuing to search for other evidence Sunday morning.
