The Marion County Board has called a special meeting for five Friday night to review and approve the overdue fiscal year 2025 budget.

The board at its meeting Tuesday night voted to do an across-the-board ten percent cut on all line items in the general fund to address a projected deficit of $267,000 and declining revenues.

Budget Committee Chair Brock Waggoner indicated each line items will be assigned to a board committee for review.  He noted some cuts could be reduced during the process as the board tries to get a handle on their spending.

Finance Committee Chair Chris Krupp says the budget deficit would be even higher without a half-million dollars in CURES funds being used for revenue.   While the board would like to have a $750,000 contingency fund, it is currently not showing in the budget.

If the board approves a tentative budget on Friday night, it will have to lay over for public review for at least 15 days before final approval.  The goal set Tuesday was to give final approval to the budget before the end of the year.  The new budget year began December 1st without a budget in place.

The Friday night special meeting will be held in a third-floor courtroom at the courthouse.
