The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department reports a man fearing deportation ran from the scene of a single car wreck on the Dix-Irvington Road south of Centralia late Sunday night.

Police say Raul Vazquez was located west of the accident, and with the help of a translator, it was determined he was driving under the influence of alcohol, fell asleep, traveled through a bean field, and ramped his vehicle through a pond before it overturned.  He had a blood alcohol level of .154, nearly twice the legal level of intoxication.

Vazquez was transported to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital by Littons Ambulance due to his injuries and the severity of the crash.  He was cited for aggravated DUI, leaving the scene of a crash, improper lane usage, and no valid DL.

The owner of the bean field also requested charges in connection with damage to his field.

The crash was reported at 10:54 Sunday night.  Since the crash occurred on the Jefferson Fire and Centralia Fire Protection District line, both departments called to assist.
