George Birge never imagined himself releasing holiday music, so recording a Christmas classic is a big deal to him.

“I never thought I’d be a Christmas guy, you know? I love Christmas. I love slowing down with my family and I love everything that it’s about. But I just wasn’t the type to maybe put on a mock turtleneck and drink eggnog,” George tells ABC Audio. “I didn’t know that I was going to [record] Christmas songs.”

But he proved himself wrong with his recently released cover of the enduring yuletide tune “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

“‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,’ it’s just got this sense of nostalgia to me. It’s got this feeling that I love and I wanted to capture it kind of in my own way,” George says.

“I call it a Christmas song that you can maybe drink a whiskey by the fire to,” he shares. “It’s got a little bit of grit and a little bit of smoke to it, but it’s still true to the incredible song that is ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.'”

George’s rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is out now on digital platforms.

“Cowboy Songs” is now #2 and approaching the peak of the country charts.
