The Salem City Council will discuss several projects when they meet in person at city hall Monday night.
Sam and Becky Phillips are requesting to raise the 10,000-pound weight limit on Missouri Avenue as they look at the construction of an RV Park for travelers at the southeast corner of Missouri Avenue and West Mills Cart Road. The weight limit was earlier imposed to keep semi-truck traffic off the road looking for an exit. Sam Phillips notes some RVs weigh more than 10,000 pounds.
One of the owners of the new Zone fitness Center in the Westgate Shopping Center is requesting a Class G Liquor License to allow him to convert the former beauty salon next door into a Gaming Parlor. The city has no licenses currently available and has been against increasing video gaming in the past.
The council will be asked to approve a grant through the Illinois Department of Transportation that would help fund engineering work for the construction of the roadway into the proposed new location of Little Egypt Golf Cars on North Hotze Road. Gonzalez Companies LLC would perform the work under the Economic Development Program grant.
There will be a discussion on the 4th of July Celebration that will fall on Sunday this year. City Manager Rex Barbee noted they added a free concert on the band stage and invited some food trucks last year and the program seemed to be very well received. He’s looking for direction on planning this year’s event.
The council will consider a contract with Archive Social to archive the city’s social media posts. Right now the posts are archived at the end of the day but miss any comments made and later removed. Barbee says Social Archive would capture all of the posts and make them available for future reference. The cost of the program would be $4,788 a year.
A request is being made to replace a chemical mixer at the Salem Water Treatment plant that is showing signs of failure. The cost would be just over $19,000 for a new pump and installation. The item is not budgeted but Barbee is recommending approval.
With relaxed COVID-19 mitigations, the Salem City Council will return to in-person meetings with Monday night’s session. It will begin at six pm in the city council chambers.
